Anheier contains a PhD from Yale University, and is also the representative of the Center for Municipal Society with the London School of Economics and a co-employee professor of sociology for Rutgers School. His current research pursuits include city society, the voluntary sector, organisational research, policy analysis and comparison methodology. He is involved in research on a comparative study for the size, range and function of the nonprofit sector in over thirty developed and developing countries.
